We have Sustainability as one of the pillars of our Mission. Thus, we understand sustainability as the balance between social, environmental, and economic aspects, which represents the greatest challenge in the world today. To promote that, we have adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set by the United Nations (UN), as the foundation of our Sustainability Policy. The search for sustainable development is incorporated into all the activities we undertake: teaching, research, internal and external community relations, and Campus operations.
As a higher education institution, we comprehend Education for Sustainable Development (EDS) as an important contribution to society. It must start within the institution itself, involving the entire university community in awareness-raising activities and the teaching-learning process. However, the EDS must extrapolate the limits of the Institution, reaching both the community that surrounds it and society as a whole.
Within the scope of research activities, we understand sustainability as a multidisciplinary science that involves all areas of knowledge in which it operates and is based on solving socio-environmental problems. With that understanding, we encourage the formation of research groups and scientific initiation activities. Valuing and caring for our employees are also relevant aspects of the Institution’s Sustainability Policy. Thus, we seek to provide them with opportunities for personal development and professional, as well as a good working environment.
An institutional policy of great social reach consists of providing financial and pedagogical support programs to low-income individuals to access and remain in higher education. Meeting the demands of the community is part of our Policy which is materialized through University Extension Programs that take place in clinics, laboratories, and community actions, both institutionally and within the scope of each course.
The inclusion of people with disabilities or reduced mobility is also a constant concern of the Institution. To provide conditions of physical, pedagogical, and attitudinal accessibility to employees, students, and other users of the Campus, we develop actions that seek to expand the perspectives of this population, collaborating to promote their quality of life and community living.
We also see ourselves as responsible for promoting and disseminating the discussion of issues related to Human Rights, seeking equality between people, and the defense of human dignity.
Within the scope of the operations carried out on Campus, we seek to reduce our impact on the environment, minimizing consumption, treating and properly directing the waste generated, and prioritizing natural and renewable processes.
In summary, the elements that comprise our Sustainability Policy are:
